Love Austin Week - A great success!

We had a great time working with all the groups in and around Austin for Love Austin Week. We couldn't have done it alone. Our friends at Fiat and Sony who supported us throughout the week. Fiat of Austin provided us with the SnoMobile for the whole week. The Fiat 500 Sport fully equipped with a roll away roof and decked out with our Snoball and Love Austin Week logos. Their dealership is not far from our office. Next week is their one year anniversary and they have already become the #1 Fiat dealer in the US. Take a look at our sweet ride!

Last month while at the Consumer Electronic Show, Sukhjit Ghag, our friend at Sony was kind enough to give us a Sony Bloggie Live to use for our Love Austin Week. This is an awesome video and still camera. It can shoot video and send it strait to YouTube or even broadcast live with it's built in wifi. We used it for most of the pictures you see here. If you want to learn more about it, or buy your own click the picture below.

Over this past week we accomplished a lot, and have been stunned of the outpour of support the Austin community has given. For our kick off event Austin Pets Alive, many companies helped us sell dog biscuits. We want to thank Zen, Jo’s, Frank, Austin Java, Progress Coffee, Uncle Billy’s Barbecue, Ski Shores Cafe, Snack Bar, Hey Cupcake, and ShortBus Subs for the amazing help. There were over 100 biscuits sold in less than a week, but that's only half the story. Many locations have asked to keep selling the treats indefinably. This will provide a continuous source of funding for the APA. What a great start to the week and a legacy that will last for years to come.

That really got us pumped for our second event for the Trail Foundation. We called it The World’s Shortest Long Distance Run. It sounds big, and it was. No we didn't get certified by Guinness, but it felt pretty short to us. Helping and joining us was ActiveLife / It's Time Texas, Gilbert Tuhabonye / Gilbert's Gazelles, Run Tex, Luke's Locker, Power Bar, Hot Britches!, El Alma, Austin City Hall, The Y- Austin, Marathon Kids, and Space 12. Check out the pictures below. We sure did have fun, and were able to add several new members to the Trail Foundation's membership roster.

Our next event took a lot of elbow grease. We went to Overton Elementary school removed weeds, and there were a lot of weeds. No big sponsors for this event, just had volunteers from the community to help us with all the work. To keep the grounds looking great we had students from two class rooms assist us in spreading mulch onto the rehabbed area. As you can see from the pictures, the teachers couldn't help but join in the fun.

After

Like all good things Love Austin Week came to an end. We had a happy hour for all the Austin area nonprofits, and you all loved us back. Great turn out, great food and great drinks was a great conclusion to our group hug to the city of Austin. We met so many people that are doing good work everyday. We all left feeing good about our little part to celebrate those that help others. Thank you Center61 for hosting us, and Tito's, Austin BeerWorks, Chuy's, and Newk's for providing the food and beverages.

So now that the week is over we want to know what you think. Did you participate in one of our events? Where you one of the sponsored nonprofits, or did you come to our happy hour? Did you have fun? We want to know everything! If you want to join in next year, we want to know that too. Please leave your comments below.

'Love Austin Week' shows admiration for local charities via YNN

It's time to show Austin some love.

Each day this week, the blog Snoball is highlighting a different charity for ‘Love Austin Week.’ The blog will help coordinate how businesses around town can help the area’s nonprofits.

Monday, dog biscuits were sold to raise money for Austin Pets Alive! The Trail Foundation also held a run to raise awareness about their organization.

"One of the many things that makes our city great is the work that our nonprofits do," Snoball Community Director Don Vanderslice said. "From Austin Pets Alive! that really had a huge impact on our city, to the Trail Foundation that makes the trail around Lady Bird Lake that much better and it has a great vision for what it can become."

Love Austin Week will end on Friday with happy hour at Center 61 in East Austin. Click here for more information.

The World’s Shortest Long Distance Run
A Benefit for the Trail Foundation

When: Tuesday, Feb 14th
             12:00 -1:00 p.m
Where: City Hall Plaza

It’s Valentine’s Day ... what better day to show some love to our city’s beautiful running trail? Runners, walkers, and supporters of The Trail are invited to the City Hall Plaza at lunchtime on February 14, 2012 to participate in a one mile social run led by Gilbert Tuhabonye, award winning coach of Gilbert's Gazelles. The run will begin at 12:15 and will be followed by good food provided by El Alma Cafe, good music spun by DJ Hot Britches, and good vibes!  The Y, Active Life, and Marathon Kids will also be on hand to promote healthy lives and a healthy Austin.

The Trail Foundation’s biggest need is to increase its membership. The Trail attracts 3,000 to 15,000 walkers and runners every day - that’s over 1.5 million annual visitors. We think it’s time for those who use the trail to give back a little. The Trail Foundation works tirelessly to clean the trail and Lady Bird Lake, to beautify and enhance the trail, and to complete the trail with the Riverside Boardwalk. It costs a mere $45 to join The Trail Foundation (only $25 if you’re a student or starving artist). 45 bucks. How much do you pay for your gym membership... per month? This is our Austin, it is our lake, and it is our trail. It’s time to give back.
If you plan on showing your support, let us know on the
Facebook Event Page.

Cost:
Free - We would love for every participant to be able to give back to the trail, but if you can’t do that yet we still want you to show your support and run with us.

$45 - If you love the trail and want to become a member of The Trail Foundation. Paying participants will become a part of The Trail Foundation and receive a Trail Foundation shirt and decal. You will also sleep more soundly knowing you have supported The Trail Foundation.

$25 - Student/Starving Artist memberships will also become a member of The Trail Foundation and will receive a shirt and decal.

Along with The Trail Foundation we are partnering with a number of local running stores, bike shops, and community running groups to increase attendance at the event.  If you are willing to Tweet or promote the event on your Facebook page, email don@snoball.com and you will be sent several sample Tweets and Status updates on Monday and Tuesday.  We don’t care if you have 10 followers or 100,000 followers - just get the word out!

If you are willing to display an event flyer at your business or spread the love by posting flyers at coffee shops, stores, etc., then download the flyer HERE and get busy!

Education and Hope
A Benefit for Overton Elementary School

When: Wednesday, Feb 15th     9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Last year’s drought had a devastating effect on the landscaping on Overton Elementary school grounds. The lack of water coupled with the broken sprinkler system killed most of the vegetation on the property. Our goal is to give them a full make-over so the students have a vibrant, healthy environment in which to learn and grow. They are in need of shrubs, mulch and sod. We will be working hard to introduce their new grounds on Wednesday, February 15th.

Cost: We need a lot of donations, but what what we need most from from you is labor. We need a lot of bodies to help us get all the landscaping planted and in the ground.

Event Partners: We need your help to make this happen. Will you consider helping us gather about 20-30 volunteers? Can you donate landscaping?

Weed pulling from 12 to 5 on Sunday the 12th.  Email wesley@snoball.com or just show up!

AIDS Services of Austin
Benefiting AIDS Services of Austin

When: Thursday, Feb 16th

AIDS Services of Austin's greatest need is to raise awareness of their cause and to increase funds. We are asking everyone in Austin to wear a red pebble in their shoe as a reminder. Pebbles will be supplied to those who would like to participate. Offices that participate will receive three emails spread throughout the day that raise awareness for the great work at ASA.

Needs: If you would like your office to participate, email john@snoball.com
